Biography
M.R.J is a London based UK Pop Singer/Songwriter who releases his fresh track ‘Cali High’ on August 11th. The song continues in his vein of pop music and continued collaboration with producer Michael Stockwell of ‘Phrased Differently’.  Following on from the Electronic ballad ‘Bliss’ which received the attention of ‘Record Of The Day’ and ‘BBC Introducing’. M.R.J returns with this autobiographical summer dance pop track.

The song is a great mix deep summer synths, M.R.J’s distinctive sensitive vocals and banging beats.

He was originally was sent a rough version of the demo by Michael Stockwell entitled ‘Cali’. M.R.J was instantly hooked and wanted the track but was away travelling in Alaska, and had to wait for his return to London to get a hold of the track to work on.
‘I loved the track when I heard as it pulled you in with its atmosphere and loved that Michael had called it ‘Cali’ because it really gave me those vibes. I tried a few ideas but kept coming back to the idea of ‘California’. I had spent some time there, particularly one holiday in L.A which had changed my mind creatively to learn that everything is possible if you want it. I met some amazing people and though I’m not there now I came up with the concept that i’m still living off the ‘California High’.
He also hooked up with Soul Singer/Songwriter Elsa Chapman for the lyrics and melody to really push the song and himself creatively.

M.R.J has teamed up with Music Video Director ‘Jay Parpworth’ on the video for ‘Cali High’. Having previously done a one shot take for his last single ‘Bliss’ in an abandoned house. M.R.J knew he wanted to dance in this video as its where his background lies and travelled to Cologne for 24 hours to work with Choreographers ‘Tommy Franzen’ & ‘Xena Gusthart’.

‘I knew I wanted to work with Tommy and despite the fact he was in Cologne I travelled to work with him where he introduced me to Xena. We only had a few hours together but came up wth something pretty organic and cool.’

Director Jay then told M.R.J of yet another abandoned location. This time an equestrian track in Kent which he had been meaning to use for a project. On the shoot day they had to wait until Sunset to film in the dusty and dark location but came out with something pretty cool and almost lending a tribute to the 90’s.

M.R.J is originally from Lincoln but made the move to London not a few days after he turned 18. He spent his first few years at performing arts college and then pursued a career in Theatre but always continued on his love for music.  He was part of the youtube cover duo ‘Winsor Jones’ with friend Natalie Winsor where they got the attention of celebrity blogger ‘Perez Hilton’ several times and were featured on his blog.

M.R.J then began to work on his own material as a solo artist. He had previously met producer Sky Adams of ‘Phrased Differently’ and after experimenting in the acoustic world M.R.J approached Sky to work on some music together where overtime he also met producer Michael Stockwell on the track ‘Water’. M.R.J has continued to work with them both ever since on various tracks. Some of which are soon to be heard on his forthcoming E.P.

After developing his sound M.R.J is ready to release his fresh pop sound on the music world. Turn up the music and tune in.
‘Cali High’ is released through Spinnup on 11th August.
